Ford at a rally in Maryville, Tenn., according to the Oct. 4 issue of The Tennessean:
“I get jumped on by my party a little bit because I go to church a lot and I love Jesus.”
Yes, I’ll wait while your latest meal returns to your stomach. Done gagging? Good.
There is apparently no low to which Junior will not stoop to win votes on the right. I understand that politics involve a bit of… well, politicking, but give me a break.
When - time, date and place, please - have Junior’s never-done-a-hard-day’s-work-in-his-entire-life hands been slapped by the Democratic party because he loves him some Jesus and goes to church?
Junior, if your party doesn’t care for Jesus-lovers, then why remain a Democrat? Seems like staying blue would be quite Judas-esque. Do you repent for your party affiliation before or after you repent for lusting in your heart at the sight of nearly nekkid women at a Playboy party?

Responses to “Ford Jr: Democrats don’t like Jesus”

I so agree with Ms. Thomas. That is stomach turning to see the self-righteousness. Reminds me eerily of Bill Clinton. Gag. In regard to the latest scandals, what is the point of hiring pages and interns anyway? All they do is deliver documents by hand and get into trouble. The lessons that most of these pages and interns learn far from their parents and guardians do not seem to outweigh the troubles that children can get into without adult supervision. Our local congressman, Harold Ford Jr., has a history of almost never responding to the emails or letters of his constituents. Yet, I am sure that Ford and the other congressmen are too only too willing to enjoy hand-delivered documents and other services from their delightful pages and interns. And, what can you learn of value from Ford, who evidently only has a vision of further romps with Playboy Playmates? Another question: Should the promotion of a promiscuous Playboy lifestyle be a priority for a congressman from a district with one of the highest rates of HIV infection among African-Americans?

Anon:
Thank you for your thoughtful and succinct comments.
Here’s another possibility. You don’t agree with me, and just about the nastiest thing you can think to call me is racist. I wouldn’t have a job if not for freedom of speech, so you are certainly entitlted to your opinion.
Harold Jr. is black, as am I. Racism is prejudice plus power, in a way that negatively affects an individual’s (or entire group of people’s) way of life. I’d have to think more about how black people can be racist (as opposed to prejudiced or biased) to other black people, but I think you’d be hard pressed to demonstrate how this blog post negatively affects Junior’s quality of life.
If by rude, you mean that it’s impolite for a black person to publicly criticize one of her own, then yes, I probably am rude.

Good grief. No matter what the topic is someone has to blame or denigrate Clinton. Thanks, Philip. This is almost beyond ridiculous. Junior is a young, single male and I personally have no problem with him attending a party sponsored by Playboy. So what? That is not the reason he won’t get my vote as I believe he is entitled to a personal life unless it involves illegal activity - and attending that post SuperBowl party, from what I can tell, was not illegal. BTW - You don’t think half the GOP homes in this country have or had a copy or two of Playboy lying around?
And surprise, surprise the GOP page scandal is now being spun to make it all the fault of the Dems. Thanks Denny Hastert for blaming it on Clinton and ABC news. But only now Denny says he is “sorry”. Gag. I am so sick of all the pandering and the spin from both sides.

Wendi, again you are allowing your mouth, pen, and all those little people living in your head to take over. Your comments are the same as the Corker camp. LOW!

Is this guy even from Memphis?????
HILARIOUS!!!!!!!!!
Memphians, particularly Black Memphians, need to wise up and stop supporting opportunitsts like Harold Ford (father and son)! These cats have a history of posturing for the cameras with limited substance and follow-thru! I rememebr when the Defense Depot was closing down back in the mid-90s and Harold, Sr. stood in front of a crowd and acted as iff he was calling Newt Gringrich (sp?) on the cell phone to convey the disdain of the audience of laid off Depot workers (absolutely sickening). Fast forward 10 years later and I see Jr. on t.v. walking through a soybean field proclaiming the virtues of “soy fuels” that SOB has never even been near a soybean field much less a combine….and now the “Jesus” thing just takes the cake. Let me get this straight, your grandma was white (despite self-identifying as black), you’re down with the field hands and the farmers, and you defiantly love Jesus despite the disdain of your party. HILARIOUS!
Well, all I can say is TN elects this idiot prince Mongold should be fill the seat vacated by Jr.
Wendi, love (most of) your column(s)and keep provoking thought in the “M-town”. Too many folks are preoccupied with the wrong things!
…and by the way, I’m an African American man who grew up in Dyersburg and Memphis with a left of center political disposition (registered independent).
Can we just elect someone FROM TENNESSEE?????

According to breaking news, the Republican Party has asked Harold Ford Jr. to swich sides, as they could really use a Hetrosexual sex scandal these days….

Susan, don’t you think it would be nice for our Congressman to be more like Barack Obama and take an AIDS test like Barack did in Kenya? It would show more progressive concern for his constituents dying daily from the scourge of AIDS, I think. So many of his constituents don’t even know they are HIV positive because they are afraid to take a simple oral AIDS test.
October 6th, 2006 at 12:04 pm
Have you taken your oral AIDS test, Philip, or is this just something blacks and gays should worry about? Why not require ALL elected officials to take the test - especialy those who come into contact with congressional pages?

I wasn’t going to vote for him anyway, but I wonder how many people who were considering doing so have changed their minds as a result of his obvious pandering to the Christian constituency?
October 7th, 2006 at 11:55 am
It is difficult for anyone with any critical thinking skills to know who to vote for. Once again, it comes down to the lesser of two evils–both espousing Jesus’ name as a buzzword or catchphrase. Ford is a Republican–might as well be, by his professed beliefs and actions (should we choose to elect him). Corker, I am not sure what he is, other than completely out of touch with reality. When we have over half the population of Tennessee who cannot read above a grade school level and the continued classism/racism here in Memphis and across the state, what do troops on the border amount to? The words they say do not even apply to our lives, we are just conditioned to think they do.

Well, Ford is part of the infamous Ford crime family that threatens utility workers with shotguns and truck drivers with handguns and that takes bribes to advance legislation and that seems to be in court more often than any legislature. What do you expect from a loyal crime family member?

Ok. That’s it. I am not voting for Junior. Period. His failure to back the party’s nominee for his old seat - Cohen - had me on the fence but this “Because I love Jesus” stuff is just too much to stomach. Couple it with his right leaning voting record and he is nothing more than a DINO. I always thought Junior would be the one to make the name Ford a good thing again here in TN. Nope. Those thoughts and wishes are now gone…along with my vote.
