Sometimes a picture sums up a whole feeling, and this is it for me so far this school year. Evidently Tomas’s class is reading “Ramona Quimby, Age 8,” a story in which the fad in third grade is for kids to bring hard-boiled eggs for lunch and crack them on their heads. So that’s what he’s doing in this goofy picture.

I know there’s also learning and whining and misbehaving and other stuff going on for him this year, but the joy of doing something like that, just for fun, with all of your buddies right there in the lunchroom, made my whole week.
