but that’s where my defense of BET, also known as Black Entertainment Television, better known as Booties Everywhere Television for its parade of buxom babes bearing all but all, stops.I debated posting this here, as I’m guessing that iDiva has a fair amount of white Divas visiting. And it’s not as if white folks don’t know about the issues SOME in the black community face when setting their priorities. But this video, well, it’s like inviting the world in on the family intervention we’re doing with Pookie, our cousin who is a drug addict and overall miscreant. Yeah, the family knows about Pookie, but does everyone else have to know about Pookie? I mean, Pookie’s situation is embarrassing, and who wants to be embarrassed? And so we have this “Read a Book” video, which you can see here and above which was aired on BET. The words by themselves wouldn’t be so disturbing (except for the profanity), but the video? Look for the bouncing butts wearing pink pants. And the graphic syllabic division of the word “book” on said pink pants Sweet Jesus, help us all.

It’s supposed to be a parody of most rap videos, but with a positive message. Oh well, my expectations for rap videos are so low, I’m just thrilled that someone understands that wealth creation often begins through land ownership, not car rim ownership.Read the LA Times’ take on the video here. And tell me, is this parody, well (or poorly) executed satire or just a hot ghetto mess?
