The search for a Wii for the perfect Christmas surprise has reached fever pitch for lots of the people in my life. I listened this afternoon to a co-worker talking to a friend who is driving to North Carolina and stopping at every Wal-Mart on the way to see if they have one. (My idea of the perfect nightmare.) But evidently they can be found, even if in Jacksonville, NC.
Or can they? Where have you looked for a Wii? And why is this the gift of choice this year? Weren’t they around last year?

Yay Kathryn, my husband worked on Guitar Hero! (Not that we get any money if you buy it, it’s just a great feeling to do something people enjoy.)
I think last year there were fewer games and people weren’t sure whether to trust the Wii controller system yet. Plus Xbox360 was hot, whereas this year I think most people aren’t that enthralled with the 360.

It’s that Allie, and it might also be that the Wii costs less than the PS3 and Xbox units. $270 is easier to swing than $400 or $500.

We got a Wii last January when a friend who already had one happened upon one at Wal-Mart. There are no children in my household, just 4 adults (including my parents, who are senior citizens). My parents, especially my dad, play the Wii just about every day. He really likes Tiger Woods golf, so we just bought him the latest release of that game. My mom likes bowling, and I’m currently the Guitar Hero! We also have Dance Dance Revolution, but we haven’t tried it yet — I hear it is quite the workout! We were just lucky to get games. I didn’t think I would care anything about Guitar Hero because I don’t play an instrument, but it is a lot of fun!

I see Wii is getting big w/seniors. My mother loves to bowl on our Wii. Is there a Senior Wii Club or Tournament in Memphis area?

They were around last year but even harder to find last Christmas – and trying to find one during the year was hit or miss too. They were usually sold out within the first day of shipment during the year. Wii’s are a great family present – by the way I’m reading this all the way from Knoxville! I love your blog! Now I’m off to find Guitar Hero for the Wii – been out since October but can’t seem to lay my hands on it.
