As if wearing a skirt in the newest issue of Skirt magazine weren’t enough (click here to find your copy; that’s page 16, left), Ron’s partner-in-crime, Karen Perrin, has revealed that Ron, well … I don’t know if I can mention what she reveals on her blog today. Let’s just say they were planting pansies (really??!), and the word COMMANDO has something to do with it. TMI!
What do you think? Anyone else know any good stories about Ron?
Maybe you heard: The CA newsroom was the scene of a few days of filming last month for the upcoming movie “Nothing But the Truth,” based on the Judith Miller/Valerie Plame CIA spy case. Along with great celeb scoping and a new glass-walled conference room, we got a good look at what kind of wardrobe makes what kind of movie character, which reporter Barbara Bradley wrote about in Sunday’s M section. Kate Beckinsale, complete with ponytail, was dressed to look “cool and cerebral” as a reporter (that’s KayBee talking to director Rod Lurie, who also plays the newspaper’s managing editor … in a tie?),
and Angela Bassett — pictured here in an Ellen Tracy dress waiting for her cue, reading a copy of Playbook — was the paper’s Editor-in-Chief, dressed to look like “a player.”
Let’s just say this: If an African-American woman were the editor of The Commercial Appeal, she’d need to be a player and then some. Though how totally cool would that be?
I know the movie continues filming around Memphis … anyone seen stars? Where? What were they wearing?
The next issue of Skirt! is here, and November is themed “True Confessions,” so all of the local women profiled share three things you might not know about them. (Find out who was Ike Turner’s publicist, and meet a chef who loves … pizza rolls and ranch dressing.)
Lots of you are calling me and asking where to find Skirt! Click HERE for our latest distribution list. And if your hair salon/nail salon/coffee shop/favorite store isn’t on this list, let us know and we’ll call to ask if they’d like to be. My number is 901.521.1927.
And, as ever, I’m always looking for interesting women to profile, great events to put on the calendar (I need events by the 5th of the month before; right now I’m closing in on December, and will be hunting for January soon), and anything else you think I should know about. Thanks so much for your support!

Tonight’s the night that kids everywhere — or at least in my house — have been longing for. We’ve surveyed the candy we’re giving, put the finishing touches on the costume, etc. But sometimes all that is transcended by one look in your kid’s eyes … which is just what I felt when I saw this picture yesterday. The princess is my 2-year-old goddaughter Lucy; her mom is one of my oldest and best friends. Something about this sweet child in her Halloween thrall stopped me cold, and reminded me to pay close attention tonight. Life is good, and it goes by SO fast.
What about you? What is your little trick-or-treater wearing, and how do you feel when you see him or her?

It’s always an amazing day, and this year’s Race for the Cure more than lived up to my expectation: more pink-clad racers, walkers and survivors than ever (The CA said more than 14,700 signed up), with more than $900,000 raised. My favorite sight this year: That terrific guy Ron Olson (that’s us, left) put on a pink skirt in honor of the new Skirt! magazine! Be sure to see more of Ron’s great legs in our November issue, out Wednesday, and you can hear me talk to Ron and Karen every Thursday morning about things both Diva and Skirt! on FM-100.
Other happy sights … Read the rest of this entry »
