valentine.JPGI start with the best of intentions, scooping up red and pink cards weeks in advance of Valentine’s Day. But this year, somehow, I didn’t send a one.

So I’m feeling regretful this morning … there’s never a bad time to tell the people you love that you love them, and why, and I kind of feel as though I’ve missed my chance. (The lotus blossoms the monk is preparing to offer to Buddha in the photo seemed like an appropriate “card.”) So here goes … though there are way more Loves in my life than I could ever fit on one list.

Join me: Who do you love, and why?

To the staff of skirt! magazine — Aubrey, Sabrina, Erin and Jennifer — I love the commitment and energy you bring to your work every day, and I love how our magazine is growing and growing. Best of luck to Erin in her next adventure.

To Leah, I love that we never seem to run out of conversation.

To Ron and Karen, I love your endless enthusiasm, and your letting me in on a little of it.

To Jane, I love your fishnets and your brave new life.

To Jennifer, I love our sister-shorthand.

To Kaye, I love that you’ve never lost your sense of infinite possibility.

To Mary, I love your instant generosity and your commitment to doing your best.

To Wendy, I love our “best” friendship, intact and growing even after all these years.

To Lisa, I love your guidance for my own journey.

To Vicki, I love that we can have meaningful conversations, even at 5:30 in the morning.

To Patricia, I love your balancing act.

To Becca, I love that your e-mails often make me laugh out loud.

To Cindy, I love your unerring instinct for what’s right with this place.

To Lela, I love your patience with my (really lame) tennis game.

To the other moms in my life, especially ones who try to do it all, I love your example, and your bravery. I watch you with awe and wonder.

Leah

I love my friends who are honest & fun & just themselves. I love my husband, who listens well and lets me be me.

I love the powerful and strong women in my life…and I love how these relationships are so real with no pretense and with no need to keep up appearances. Just straight-up, tell-it-like-it-is-whether-you-want-to-hear-it-or-not true friends.

Thanks, Diva, for everything — especially this opportunity to post my V-day love thoughts.

I love my Starbucks baristas! I swear, I see them more than I see my own family.
