For several days now I’ve known that my debut on iDiva was coming, so I’ve been carefully considering what my first post should include. Should I try to introduce myself to you? Learn more about who you are? Make some grand statement on the social order of women in America? And all I could come up with was: Man, I hope I don’t screw this thing up.

(Of course, the big announcement about my joining iDiva has kind of been overshadowed now, hasn’t it? But nevertheless, let’s move on as if there were no other news in the city today…)

When in doubt, first things first. You probably want to know who this strange person is who’s posting on your iDiva blog. So read on to learn more about me…

  • I’m not a Memphis native, but I’ve lived here 20+ years.
  • I’m a U of M Journalism School graduate and I looove me some Memphis Tigers.
  • My husband, Chip, is a Memphis native.
  • We met at “Memphis State.”
  • We have one son, Elijah, who is a freshman at Germantown.
  • For the last 12 years, I’ve worked in public relations.
  • When people ask me what I do, I like to say, “I work in PR” so that they get all confused and think I’m in radio.
  • (If you don’t understand that last bullet point, try reading it aloud.)
  • (If you still don’t get it, you really should tune into WKNO on the dial at 91.1 occasionally.)
  • I recently took up running at the age of 41 after an entire lifetime of avoiding anything even resembling exercise.
  • Seriously. Never even took a single PE class.
  • I’m actually kind of loving it, too, although my joints – not so much.
  • I tend to have an addictive personality.
  • Luckily, these days it’s for Starbucks.
  • I just went off the pill after some 20 years and can highly recommend the Mirena IUD.
  • Although my doctor forgot to mention that going off the pill could result in the possible side effect of my face BREAKING OUT LIKE A DAMN TEENAGER.
  • I have a penchant for typing in caps, an aversion to full sentences and a tendency toward TMI. Don’t let it throw you. You’ll grow to love me for it.

I hope that whether you’re married or single, a mother or childless, stay-at-home or work-outside, suburbanite or midtowner, democrat or republican, agnostic or religious, you’ll find our similarities when you read me and not our differences. Cause us women? We’re totally in this thing together.

Now it’s your turn - tell me something about you, so I know who I’m talking to.

Kalisa, you know I love you more than my luggage.

Come to think of it, I LOVE CAPS, have an aversion to sentences, and am accused of TMI frequently.

Congrats to you on this new gig! I think it’s a great fit.

Lys

Kalisa - iDiva has the PERFECT blogger for Memphis ;) Much congrats and I’m adding this to the blog must-reads.

Joan

Kalisa, looking forward to reading your Memphis blog. I know you’ll do great and the readers will LOVE you!

Deb

Love your posts in the past and look forward to catching the new ones here. One of the best things about your blog is that it often feels like we are sitting in the same room having a live conversation! Keep up the good work!

Melissa

Ah, you forgot to say that you are beautiful; smart; have an unerring sense of fashion, a great sense of humor and a beautiful singing voice.
And a sister who likes to brag on you …
Congratulations! Now relax and have fun.

amy

I always love reading your blog and will definitely follow you here. Seriously…where else could I find a blogger who knows the ins and outs of high fashion, proper grammar and the ‘dribble and drive’ offense??

Donna

Wow…you sound like a barrel of fun!! I love the ‘I work in PR’ thing! That’s hilarious! I’ll drop in every now and then and leave my two cents when I feel passionate about something written here. I’m an over 40 (actually closer to 50) Black female who enjoys reading about women, our issues, our fears, our feelings, family, etc. Count me in on this blog because I occasionally need to let off some steam every now and then and I may just have to do it here. I hope no one mind. If so, go elsewhere and blog! (See…I told you how I am….I gave you a warning though!) I am looking forward to your blogs.
