As long as she passes the drug tests, we must believe that she’s clean…and I SO hope she is…I’m so tired of reading about medals lost years after the games because of dopping. I’m SO tired of the “win-at-all-costs” attitude that seems to permeate sports. Whatever happended to “do your best”? Go, Dara! Swim hard, stay clean, and remain the roll model that you’ve become!

OK, I understand the innocent-until-not positions you are taking. And of course there are reasons she looks like that and I don’t — as I said in the column, she’s an exceptional athlete, with astonishing drive and discipline. But the discussion about Dara and drugs isn’t something I made up; have a look at this Rick Morrissey column in The Chicago Tribune for the most compelling reasons to be at least skeptical — http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/cs-080710-morrissey-dara-torres,0,6955166.column. Those of you who read me regularly know that there is nothing I would like better than to see Torres win Olympic medals, again. And to have them be the result of her amazing gifts and commitment, and nothing else.

I’m sorry but I find this post and the article it references extremely inappropriate. Just because other athletes have used steroids does not mean that this woman has. Until she fails a drug test, shame on you for blackening her character with speculation.

I totally want to believe Dara Torres. Swimming is
a big sport in my household. Both kids are on swim teams and water polo. This is what we’ll be watching
at our home. I think all this doping in sports is
completely crushing to read about. On the other hand, are there any other women on any teams in the Olympics w/ a body like that?

This woman has submitted to every drug test there is. It’s not a question of whether or not you believe her, it’s simply a matter of record that she is not using performance inhancing drugs. Why are you so skeptical that you had to write something negative not once, but twice? She works out for a living- that’s why she looks like that and you don’t. It doesn’t have to be anything more sinister than that.

What happened to innocent until proven guilty? Especially when multiple tests maintain that innocence?

Do you think that she first got on the Olympic team largely through her talent and youthful ability, but now she does it through talent and sheer determination?
