Before there was Lady Diana Spencer — soon to be HRH the Princess of Wales, and eventually the Princess of People’s Hearts, there was her foremother, Lady Georgiana Spencer, the Duchess of Devonshire. You’ve probably heard about the new movie, opening mid-October, starring Kiera Knightley and Ralph Fiennes. Now’s your chance to see a preview for free next Thursday, Oct. 2. I would have done this if I had realized that “The Duchess” would not be shown in theaters here. I have been looking forward to it.

Whatever happened to the party pictures that used to be posted here? I liked referring to them as “boobs on parade” (and I mean that in only the kindest, most non-anatomical way), but I’m jonesin’ for them since there are so few other sources of mirth in the CA (unless you read—as I do—the wedding/engagement announcements; last Sunday’s, with the picture of the bride who looked like she belonged on the prow of a Viking sailing ship, is one of my all-time favorites). Are the party pics gone forever?
